Between the 1500s and 1700s, women in Britain, Germany, and Scotland were punished with the Scold’s Bridle—a cruel iron mask that locked around their head, pressed down or pierced their tongue, and forced them into public humiliation. Women labeled as “too talkative” or “disrespectful” were chained, paraded through the streets, and ridiculed. This wasn’t just about keeping someone quiet—it was a tool of patriarchal control, designed to punish women who dared to speak, stand up, or defy male authority. Some masks even had bells so everyone could hear their arrival, turning their suffering into a spectacle. Today, surviving bridles in museums remind us how far societies went to silence women and why fighting misogyny and patriarchal control is still necessary.

What’s one of the darkest ways history controlled women’s voices?

This mother tried desperately to get police to protect her children from their dangerous father. As so often happens, her pleas went ignored. The system failed her. He killed the children, and then the Daily Mail blames the mother. Despicable journalism.
Nina@ShakeLS

The Daily Mail blaming the mother, when that disgusting father killed their 3 children. She tried many many times to stop visitation and informed authorities he was dangerous the court didn't hear her. He killed the kids, the Daily Mail that trash newspaper blaming her for missing an opportunity to save them apparently.

@Sinful_Skulboi Unrelated, but these examples are kinda funny if you remember both of these happened in movies. I'm specifically talking about mcu Spider-Man never talking about uncle Ben while Iron-Man and May's deaths replace that plot, and the tmnt bay movies just had Splinter be some labrat.

I said it before and I'll say it again, most a*cane fans are too tourist to understand that making Ajuna non-canon is like making uncle ben non-canon for SM, or the whole Hamato Yoshi/Oroku Sagi plot non-canon for Splinter. Its THAT much of a deal to just swipe it under the rug
The peoples princess@ThatoneQueen3

I wonder if they will make some amalgamation of both Ekkos official canon in the future when they revisit him. It’s clear atp that story canon doesn’t = in game appearance (unless you are Viktor) and likely never will.

@kanegrape People shouldn't have given S1 so much undeserved praise that overhyped the show for everyone including themselves. Now, despite S2 being better than S1, everyone's watching that season like the show dropped in quality.

Still in awe at what Mattel refuses to do these day when it comes to promoting their products.
