One Retirement Gap Many Texas Teachers Don’t Expect Teachers are fortunate to have a pension through TRS. But one thing many educators discover as they approach retirement is that their pension may not fully replace their working income. Many pensions replace roughly 60–70% of salary. For example: A teacher earning $70,000 annually might receive a pension of approximately $45,000. That leaves a $25,000 income gap. For some families, that gap can have a meaningful impact on their retirement lifestyle. This is why many educators explore additional retirement strategies to help close that gap and create a more complete retirement income plan.

I’m a big advocate for the shot clock in high school basketball, purely for the science and strategy of it. I think it makes for a more entertaining fan experience also. It’s easy to say "just trap them and speed them up," but forcing tempo defensively against a disciplined team holding the ball is a massive energy drain. A shot clock shouldn't be a replacement for good defense; it’s an equalizer for possession math. It takes the gimmick of stalling away so both teams can focus on pure offensive and defensive execution.

I trust your opinion, Russ. But not everyone plays with your philosophy. Eight minute quarters in high school, with a 40 second shot clock prevents all-out stalling yet lets a team which enjoys a slower pace to play its game.
