Breaking: NC State will be hiring Tennessee assistant Justin Gainey as its next men's basketball coach, sources tell @CBSSports. Gainey, 49, was one of the primary targets for the job and notably played for the Wolfpack from '96-00. He's been a high-major assistant since 2018.
NC State is expected to hire alum and Tennessee assistant Justin Gainey, source told @thefieldof68. Gainey, 49, played for the Wolfpack from 1996-2000 under Herb Sendek. Gainey was on staff at NC State from 2006-2009. Gainey was an assistant for Sendek at Santa Clara in 2017-18, then spent two seasons with Sean Miller at Arizona before going to Marquette for one season and then joining Rick Barnes in 2021. Gainey takes over for Will Wade - who left for LSU earlier this week after just one season in Raleigh.
