For years now, the great debate in tackling technique has been whether using the Near Shoulder is as effective as using the head across.
The results are in. Not only is it as effective, but it is more effective. When players use their Near Shoulder, they experience better performance. More made tackles, more effective tackles, and allow fewer yards after contact.
Ultimately, if you use your shoulder, whether it be near shoulder or far shoulder (head across), you will be an effective tackler. But if you are looking for that 1% edge, Near Shoulder is the method to use.

Kit Wilson tells me Nick Aldis and Shawn Daivari came up with his fantastic attack on Matt Cardona.
“I don’t want to give the wrong credit to the wrong people, however, let me say, we get a lot of help backstage and someone I was working with closely at the time on the main event taping was Nick Aldis.
“He was there helping produce and he was a big ideas guy. Another person that was helping a lot was [Shawn] Davairi.
“I wanted to attack [Matt] Cardona a certain way. I was just going to attack, but Davairi wanted to get the song in there and he was pushing like ‘we need to get the song in there, we need to get the song in.’
“And then it might have been Nick that suggested ‘Hey, why don’t we play the song after you’ve beaten him up?’ So those pieces kind of came together.
“Nick had the idea ‘well once you’ve beaten him up, it doesn’t mean you can’t still do your song.’ I think the timing of the music hit perfectly and on I went.”

The tournament is only hours old and I don't know if we’re going to see a better moment than this.
In such a billion-dollar business, it’s often forgotten at its core that a coach-player dynamic — at its absolute best — sounds exactly like this.

It was an emotional postgame presser for @HUMensBB as Bryce Harris and Ose Okojie shared their final thoughts about Howard HC Kenny Blakeney and how's changed their lives. Their answers are almost ten mins long (which obvs speaks to KB), but here's a little snippet:

Students who took notes by hand scored ~28% higher on conceptual questions than laptop note-takers. Writing forces your brain to process and compress ideas instead of copying them.
