The man @jasonfried said something cool that I’ve been thinking about: Make your company extra weird in the beginning. Lean into that shit. Because as you grow, that flavor can get shut down. People start acting corporate and vanilla. So if you can be extra weird early on, even if people tone it down, your brand and culture is still unique. I screwed this up at my last company. Came out the gate with fire and flavor. But as we grew, I let boring shit happen (often leading the charge myself). Why: I got lazy with hiring, didn’t stick to the values, I didn’t explicitly express what we stood for, didn’t get buy in. Should have had the attitude of “this is what we are about and if you’re not about, we ain’t for you.” With employees and customers! Like a desperate person willing to go on a date with anyone who’ll give him a chance!

Goal is 85km this week. 10 weeks to marathon.

First marathon done last weekend. Would not recommend. Sucked way more than I thought it would. Time was 3:43. Was aiming for well under 3:30 but body wasn’t up to the challenge. Back to training for a 10km race in July and the next marathon in August.
