BTW I began working as a correspondent five months ago. Since then, I have been trying to obtain a press vest and helmet, but have been unable to find either, despite Gaza being one of the most dangerous places in the world for journalists. I call the international and media institutions to press for the entry of essential safety equipment into Gaza, at the very least if they are unable to secure access for foreign journalists.

Hello, I am Ahmed, son of Refaat Alareer. On behalf of myself and my family. We thank everyone for their solidarity and condolences and wish to clarify that we have never created any fundraising links, whether in the past or at present, and we deny any connection to such links.

I have visited Dr. Refaat’s wife and children, and she affirmed what Ahmed had stated. She explained that the vast majority of people in Gaza are in need, and that they do not wish for Dr. Refaat’s name to be used for any personal interest including his family. They believe in standing equal with all members of society and emphasize that aid and donations should be directed to everyone in need, as the hardship is shared by all. She also shared that Dr. Refaat firmly rejected the idea of individual fundraising campaigns. He believed in institutional efforts and in the fair, transparent distribution of support, ensuring that assistance reaches all those in need rather than being limited to a particular person, family or group.

If 18 Israelis were killed today, it would be treated as a civilizational crisis and Western governments would rush to condemn it. But Israel killing 18 Palestinians during a so called ceasefire? Total silence.

This is what western liberalism does. It professed moral outrage at the genocide only when it was certain that it would not change the outcome as was the case after the Ahli hospital massacre. Now it goes back to defending the power structures that made the genocide inevitable.
