@microbigal In my program at UNC an email went around encouraging grad students to help with testing. Exempt from dual employment.

Does anyone know what the current obstacle to testing in the US (esp VT/NH) is? Is it reagents, equipment or personnel? I did a lot of qPCR in my technician days, and I'd be happy to step up and help ramp up testing. I'm sure many other grad students feel the same way.

@neleshg @hyphaltip Something like Candida ChromAgar might work. Multiple color-changing substrates indicate enzyme presence. Colonies will be black, red, green, white, depending. It's proprietary but folks online have some pretty good guesses as to what's in there.

I'm teaching registrars an approach to identification of black fungi at our monthly #fungal #MicroRounds. This is such a broad "group" of fungi. Anyone have a simple approach to lab ID?
