I don’t know when exactly, but Web3 community feels… different lately. I don’t know who started it or what triggered it. But one thing’s for sure: something has shifted. Look at what’s happening on my X timelines or even in @RialoHQ Discord, where people are busy posting selfies and sexy photos just to get a role that they refer to as a 'contribution'. Ironically, when someone tried to question this absurdity, a @RialoHQ moderator simply replied, “Contribution is contribution,” and then gave a timeout without any fair discussion. I’ve been following the project for a while and even covered it early on. But, to be honest, i was shocked to see how arrogant a moderator could become just because a woman hid behind the excuse of 'needing protection'. What she actually needed was validation. It’s a justification for intellectual laziness. A shield to cover the fact that part of the community has lost the ability to tell the difference between value creation and attention seeking. Imagine spending hours creating art, writing research, or building something from scratch, only to be equated with someone who just opens their front camera and says “gm guys” while tagging a project. Not every selfie comes from women, but the truth is this culture pressures women in Web3 to show up in front of the camera to be seen as active. That’s where a new bias forms. Those who don’t show up are seen as passive. And what about those who still uphold one of Web3’s core principles, anonymity? They’re the ones most affected by this bad habit, which I personally think started from the @monad community. I just don’t want this to become a norm, where community systems legitimize it. Roles are handed out, engagement goes up, but the substance is zero. Even Ghozali needed 933 days of consistent selfies before turning them into an NFT collection, and that was creative. He built a concept and stayed consistent. But now? People take one selfie on Discord and suddenly call themselves Web3 contributors. What contribution does a pose like this make? If this is what we consider to be a contribution, then we're moving backwards, not forwards. How did someone like this get their allocation? Are they really deserving? Should this be allowed to become a widespread practice? Even worse, some don’t even use their real face. Generate AI photo, upload it, tag a project, write “gm builders”, and wait for engagement from simps or project mods. Look at this one: Platform like @ethos_network are much healthier than the selfie habit. On-chain activity has value, and reputation reflects how much someone contributes or earns trust. It goes far beyond simply showing your body on camera. Within the context of DRS, this is exactly why reputation must be measured objectively, not through social optics. I’m not here to ban selfies or stop anyone from expressing themselves. I’m talking about ethics and impact. Do it because you want to, not because you expect a reward. Do it without sexual undertones, because that adds no value. I want projects to stop turning a blind eye. I want projects to focus on quality and real contributions. I want projects to reward effort. I want Web3 to stay true and healthy. Everything i wrote here comes from a shared concern across the community. I’m just voicing it. Only my community? Nah, it comes from majority. *I'm not trying to attack anyone personally, it's just that these images are on my timeline, and I'm using them as examples. I think they post it fully aware of what they're doing*
