FEDERAL MINISTRY OF EDUCATION PRESS RELEASE 22 April 2026 FG DEEPENS NIGERIA–UK EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP TO EXPAND WORLD-CLASS SCHOOLS, SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND INVESTMENT The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming Nigeria’s education sector by strengthening collaboration with the United Kingdom to expand access to world-class education, enhance skills development, and attract international investment. This was highlighted during a visit by a delegation from the UK Department for Business and Trade to the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja. The Honourable Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, stated that the government is prioritising the establishment of reputable international schools in Nigeria to provide globally competitive education locally and reduce the cost of studying abroad. He noted that Nigeria’s population and rising demand for quality education present strong investment opportunities, particularly in cities such as Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Kano, and Kaduna. The Minister assured investors of an enabling environment through policy reforms and improved administrative processes. He further highlighted progress in the sector, including increased school enrolment and expanded Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes, with free technical education and stipends for trainees. The Honourable Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Said Ahmad, emphasised the importance of sustained international partnerships. The engagement signals a broader Nigeria–UK collaboration covering schools, teacher training, and skills development. Boriowo Folasade Director, Press and Public Relations

Excited to see this partnership with @NigEducation take shape. A new @covcampus in Lagos will give Nigerian students access to UK‑equivalent degrees in STEMM, Business & TVET—at home and at a fraction of the cost. A real step forward for skills and opportunity. #UKNGStateVisit

FEDERAL MINISTRY OF EDUCATION PRESS RELEASE 18 March 2026 UK DEGREES AT HOME: FG SECURES COVENTRY UNIVERSITY PARTNERSHIP TO DELIVER AFFORDABLE GLOBAL EDUCATION The Federal Government is advancing plans to establish a Coventry University campus in Nigeria through a Transnational Education (TNE) partnership aimed at expanding access to globally recognised degrees. The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, CON, is currently in the United Kingdom accompanying President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, engaging with UK university leadership, key investors, and development partners to drive the initiative forward. The proposed campus, to be located in Alaro City, Lagos State, will offer Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM), Business, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). All degrees will be equivalent to those awarded in the United Kingdom. Admissions are expected to commence between the third and fourth quarters of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. This initiative will enable Nigerian students to access world-class education locally at significantly reduced cost, while strengthening skills development and enhancing graduate employability. Speaking on the development, the Honourable Minister stated: “We want Nigerian parents to enjoy their children being at home while still receiving a world-class UK education.” The Federal Ministry of Education, with the support of the United Kingdom’s Department for Business and Trade, remains committed to expanding access to high-quality, globally competitive education and positioning Nigeria as a leading hub for knowledge, skills, and innovation.
