Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, assumed responsibilities as the new Secretary General of the D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation, today. The change was effected in a formal handing over ceremony held at the #D8 Secretariat in Istanbul. During the ceremony, the Outgoing Secretary-General, Ambassador Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam, and the Incoming Secretary-General, Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, exchanged remarks - stressing the D-8’s vast potential, ensuring realisation of the opportunities for enhanced cooperation and economic integration, and underscoring commitment to the principles and objectives of the Organisation as enshrined in the #D8 Charter as well as the Decennial Roadmap. The ceremony concluded with the signing of the handover minutes and a family photo.

The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation extends warmest felicitations to the leadership, Government, and people of Pakistan on the auspicious occasion of Pakistan’s National Day. Youm-e-Pakistan Mubarak! This Day serves as a reminder of a major turning point in history when the demand for an independent and sovereign state of Pakistan was formally articulated. Since achieving independence in 1947, in line with the vision of its founding fathers, Pakistan has made determined efforts to foster peace and stability, promote socio-economic progress and prosperity, and contribute to international peace and security. As a founding Member State of D-8, Pakistan has contributed immensely to deepening mutual cooperation within the D-8 framework and enriching the multi-faceted partnership among the D-8 countries. There is no doubt that this valuable contribution will continue to grow in the years to come. Heartiest congratulations to United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on conferment of the prestigious Ataturk International Peace Prize by Honourable President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Geleneksel MÜSİAD Diplomatik Misyonlar İftar Programı 50’yi aşkın ülkenin büyükelçi ve başkonsolosunu aynı sofrada buluşturdu. Programda konuşan Genel Başkanımız Burhan Özdemir (@BurhanOzdemirTR), “Dünya büyük bir düzensizlik evresinden geçiyor. Kurulacak yeni düzenin sadece izleyicisi değil, kurucusu olmak istiyorsak; birlikte düşünmeli, birlikte hareket etmeli ve geleceği birlikte inşa etmeliyiz” dedi.

Bugün, MÜSİAD Genel Merkezimizde Geleneksel Diplomatik Misyonlar İftar Programımızı gerçekleştirdik. 50’yi aşkın ülkenin büyükelçi ve başkonsolosunu aynı sofrada ağırlamaktan büyük memnuniyet duyduk. İftar programımız vesilesiyle mübarek Ramazan ayının; diyalog, empati ve ortak insanlık bilincini güçlendiren bir iklim sunduğunu vurguladık. Küresel ölçekte güç dengelerinin değiştiği, belirsizliklerin arttığı bir dönemde, rekabetten ziyade iş birliğine ihtiyaç bulunduğunu ifade ettik. Aynı zamanda bölgemizin çok katmanlı jeopolitik sınamalarla karşı karşıya olduğunu; kalıcı istikrarın ancak ortak akıl, karşılıklı anlayış ve kapsayıcı yaklaşımlarla mümkün olacağını dile getirdik. İftar soframızı teşrif eden tüm misyon temsilcilerine teşekkür ediyor, bu mübarek ayın barışa, istikrara ve ortak refaha vesile olmasını temenni ediyorum. — Today, we hosted our Traditional Diplomatic Missions Iftar Program at the Headquarters of MÜSİAD. It was a great pleasure to welcome ambassadors and consuls general from more than 50 countries at the same table. On the occasion of our iftar gathering, we underlined that the holy month of Ramadan offers a climate that strengthens dialogue, empathy, and a shared sense of humanity. At a time when global power balances are shifting and uncertainties are increasing, we emphasized the need for cooperation rather than competition. We also expressed that our region is facing multilayered geopolitical challenges, and that lasting stability can only be achieved through common wisdom, mutual understanding, and inclusive approaches. I would like to thank all mission representatives who honored our iftar table with their presence and wish that this blessed month brings peace, stability, and shared prosperity.

The Developing-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8) respectfully remembers former Prime Minister of the Republic of Türkiye, Prof. Dr. Necmettin Erbakan, as we commemorate his death anniversary today. Erbakan Hoca’s vision of justice-based economic cooperation, solidarity among developing countries, and shared prosperity laid the foundation of the D-8. His ideals continue to inspire our collective efforts toward a more equitable and inclusive global economic order and shape the spirit and direction of the D-8. We honour his enduring legacy with gratitude and reaffirm the commitment to spare no effort in realising his founding vision.

Deputy Minister Ambassador Musa Kulaklıkaya received a courtesy visit from Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, Secretary General of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation. During the meeting, Deputy Minister Ambassador Kulaklıkaya congratulated Ambassador Mahmood on assuming his position as the Secretary General of the D-8.

D-8 Genel Sekreteri olarak yeni görevine başlayan Büyükelçi Sayın Sohail Mahmood ve beraberindeki heyet Birliğimizi ziyaret etti. TOBB Yönetim Kurulu Başkan Yardımcısı Tamer Kıran’ın katıldığı toplantıda; Türkiye’nin kurucu üyesi olduğu D-8 çatısı altında ticari ve ekonomik iş birliğinin güçlendirilmesi, üye ülkeler arasındaki ticaretin artırılması değerlendirildi. D-8 bünyesinde iş dünyasına yönelik mekanizmaların daha etkin hale getirilmesi ele alındı. Sayın Büyükelçiye yeni görevinde başarılar dileriz.

Cumhurbaşkanlığı Külliyesi’nde, D-8 Genel Sekreteri Sayın Süheyl Mahmud ile bir araya geldik. Görüşmemizde; D-8’in daha dinamik, proje odaklı ve sonuç üreten bir yapıya kavuşması, Azerbaycan’ın katılımıyla oluşan yeni ivmenin etkin biçimde değerlendirilmesi ve Sekretaryanın kurumsal ve mali açıdan güçlendirilmesine yönelik reform sürecini ele aldık. Türkiye olarak, kuruluşunda öncü rol oynadığımız D-8’in uluslararası alandaki etkinliğini artıracak bu dönüşüm sürecine samimi ve güçlü destek vermeye devam edeceğiz. Genel sekreterlik görevini üstlenen Sayın Mahud’a ziyaretleri için teşekkür ediyor, 14-15 Nisan 2026 tarihlerinde Cakarta’da düzenlenecek olan D-8 Zirvesi’nin Teşkilatımıza ve tüm üye devletlere hayırlı sonuçlar getirmesini diliyorum.

Gelişen ülkeler D-8 Teşkilatı Genel Sekreteri Sayın Sohail Mahmoud ile görüşme gerçekleştirdik. Kasım ayında ülkemizde gerçekleştireceğimiz COP31 zirvesine ilişkin çalışmalarımızı anlattık, Eylem Gündemi’miz ve D8 ülkeleri ile kurabileceğimiz ortaklıklar üzerine istişarelerde bulunduk. Güçlü iş birliği noktasında mutabık kaldık. Bu verimli görüşme için Sayın Genel Sekretere teşekkürlerimi iletiyorum.

Bu yıl başında D-8 Genel Sekreteri olarak göreve başlayan Büyükelçi Sayın Sohail Mahmood’u bugün Ticaret Bakanlığımızda ağırlamaktan memnuniyet duyduk. Kurucu üyesi olduğumuz D-8 çatısı altında; ticaret ve ekonomik iş birliğinin güçlendirilmesi, Tercihli Ticaret Anlaşması’nın etkin uygulanması ve üye ülkeler arasındaki ticaretin artırılması yönündeki kararlılığımızı bir kez daha teyit ettik. Azerbaycan’ın katılımıyla daha da güçlenen D-8’in, İslam dünyasında daha adil, daha kuşatıcı ve daha etkili bir ekonomik iş birliği zemini sunacağına inanıyoruz. 2015-2017 yılları arasında Pakistan’ın Ankara Büyükelçisi olarak Türkiye-Pakistan ilişkilerine önemli katkılar yapan Sayın Büyükelçinin yeni görevinde de aynı başarıyı göstereceğine yürekten inanıyorum.
