What a treat, having missed his BSc & MSc graduation ceremonies due to lockdown & then having covid, it was lovely to see Joshua (after 3 years of study/exams whilst working full time) formally become a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. I couldn’t be a prouder Dad ❤️

I was sat next to John Prescott on the front row of the Labour Party Conference waiting to hear which Milliband would be the next leader. David (everybodys pick except the Unions) or Ed (Nobodys pick except the Unions). The groan of disappointment was palpable, the hall was full of blairites. John turned to me and said “We’re fucked now lad, totally fucked, but don’t quote me for god sake”! I figure it’s ok to share this now.

Many boards are pointless. They take as read what they are fed by execs for their remuneration or reputational CV boost. How can we change this?
- look at staff turnover & ask why?
- scrutinise staff engagement scores.
- outcomes better or worse?
- is critical thinking welcomed?

While prepping to interview Boris Johnson tomorrow, by mistake I sent our briefing notes to him in a message meant for my team. That obviously means it’s not right for the interview to go ahead. It’s very frustrating, and there’s no point pretending it’s anything other than embarrassing and disappointing, as there are plenty of important questions to be asked. But red faces aside, honesty is the best policy. See you on Sunday.
