Durham Tech Community Health Lab

Today was a pretty big step for Project MAPS. We expanded to another site in partnership with Open Table Ministries and are over the moon about reaching more of the homeless population in Durham. Cheers to new collaborations!

While on street outreach we had an unexpected but ADORABLE visitor who came w/ a patient. Above all we want our folks to feel welcomed, comfortable & safe when they receive care. Fortunately, our flexible mobile space is perfect for furry friends. 💜 (Photo taken with permission)

It was a pleasure providing Creekside Elementary w/ FREE comprehensive eye exams & prescription glasses alongside Dr. Patel from In Her Vision. Shout out to @durhamtech Opticianry students, school nurses from @DurhamHealthNC & vollies from City of Medicine VMC for their help!

Eye exams & glasses are NOT as accessible as they should be in North Carolina for children who are uninsured or have Medicaid. This is why we are committed to filling the gap, one school and community organization at a time. It takes a village, and we have found a village.

We ❤️ our student learners! Today we had our @IMResidencyDuke resident physician, an OTD student from Duke, a Master in Social Work intern from NCCU, and a @durhamtech phlebotomy student! These students take clinic/class learning & put it right into practice.

We circled back to @rogersherrmiddl for follow up care - eye exams & glasses. 💗 watching @durhamtech Opticianry students apply practically what they learn in class, serving Durham while doing it.

Project SIGHT goes to Pamlico County! 50 children’s lives transformed by the power of SIGHT! 💜 serving rural NC! Thanks for having us Arapahoe Charter.

That’s why we are such strong advocates for a mobile low barrier treatment model. We have seen it work well over the last year in Durham and hope we can continue being a resource to this community.

“I prayed, Lord, walk me to the van.” They knew they needed help, but often we lose the mental battle w/ ourselves. Fear, shame, inadequacy & distrust are just a few barriers we hear. But they came that day & told someone else that they needed to come see us & that person came.💜

We never know when our folks are going to be ready to “walk to the van” & that’s ok b/c we will continue to support them in whatever way they need.

When our people trust us enough to tell others to come see us, it means we are doing something right and we want to keep doing that.

Que bueno fue servir con Durham Juntos a tantos estudiantes latinos y sus familias con exámenes de vista y lentes. We love our Bull City Latino families & are trying to reach them all!

We love Mass Vision Screening Day because that means we are 1 step closer to kids being able to see clearly! Next on the schedule for Parkwood Elementary will be comprehensive eye exams & prescription eyeglasses! Let’s keep those eyes healthy and bright! 👓💙 #DoGreatThings

We had a blast with NBA’s Trey Murphy at a Back to School event w/ @dprplaymore providing free vision screenings & prescription glasses. He’s a Durham native & has a 💜 for Durham children, which we love b/c we do too! Shout out to our student learners from UNC. Ya’ll rock!
