When Steam was released video game piracy went down massively. When Spotify was released music piracy went down massively. Piracy is and will always be a service issue. Provide people a legal, convenient, accessible alternative if you don't want them to pirate.

In a worst case scenario (power outage, server death etc) the Nintendo Switch 2 is the only modern console that will be of any use.
Society could collapse and youd still be able to play Donkey Kong Bananza right out of the box with no more than a car battery.

If any industry pundits are talking about game sales and reach, and not accounting for China, they're out of the "real" conversation.
Their talking points are simply too superficial and lack knowledge/perspective.

Cheers for the coverage, but the "miss" mentioned in the article is comparing U.S.-only data to our global estimates. The U.S. is a huge market, sure, but it accounts for a quarter of the game's audience. Resident Evil is surprisingly big in China, where Steam is the de-facto platform. Requiem has sold about 500K copies in China via Steam.

Sony has far, far less worth losing in their first-party studio lineup. Xbox has COD, Doom, Elder Scrolls, Diablo, Gears, Overwatch, Fallout, Starfield, Wolfenstein, Fable, Halo, Forza Horizon, The Outer Worlds 2, WoW, Avowed, Grounded, SoT, Indiana Jones, Hellblade, Blade etc.
