@GabeEcon No pressure but there are plenty of philosophers with math degrees who found good homes here.

The urge to quit economics and math and go be a philosopher is strong.

Curious about the ideal and non-ideal theory debate? My book, Ideal and Non-Ideal Theory, is now out open access with Cambridge Elements in Political Philosophy! Read the book that David Estlund has called "easily the best full treatment of the topic that we have." (link below)

In a few weeks, 3 of our profession's top 5 journals will close for submissions. This is not an ideal situation.

The problem with OpenAI's backtracking is that nobody trusts them right now.

Cancelled my OpenAI subscription. Would encourage others to do the same.

It’s extremely good that Anthropic has not backed down, and it’s siginficant that OpenAI has taken a similar stance. In the future, there will be much more challenging situations of this nature, and it will be critical for the relevant leaders to rise up to the occasion, for fierce competitors to put their differences aside. Good to see that happen today.

@birchlse @lecielcyan Could be worse. The other two journals in the area blew up and if you dare to submit to the one that was reopened they try to kill you

@lecielcyan It's a cruel and unusual punishment for junior scholars - something only ethicists could come up with.

Just another symptom of philosophy's journal crisis. Because the journals function as "CV prizes" with higher rejection rates than Nature and Science, reviewers operate in "prize judging mode" rather than "is the paper publishable?" mode.
Matthew Lutz@MattLutzPhi

Had a paper rejected and am feeling salty, so sure, this is sour grapes. But it is *insane* that reviewers treat "I have a substantive philosophical disagreement with the argument of this paper" as a reason to reject.

Just got an email from Wiley. They want me to help train their AI assistant (for free) which was trained on the content we wrote for them (for free). They're framing this as an exclusive opportunity for me.
