@NoLuckLugia i’m not saying 1:1 adaptations can’t be successful. they totally can, but that story has been told before. i’m aware most of this is opinion based. you have the comic, enjoy it, read it again, the movie is a different story.

@DeanBeyerr i mean everything youve been talking about is your opinion also not objective turning a comic book into a screenplay isn’t super easy so i think someone might find that a fun challenge invincible for example is almost 1:1 to the comic and its perfectly fine and popular

@NoLuckLugia it is your opinion yes. i’m not sure why you essentially just want the exact same story again but whatevs. i doubt that’d be inspiring for the screenwriters but i guess that doesn’t matter. adapting and changing stories gives fresh and invigorating takes.

dc’s ability to drive online chatter but never translate it to the box office is so upsetting. supergirl deserves better. it is a great film.

@NoLuckLugia the only one that actually received true hate was gorr’s story but that’s just cuz the comic is great and the movies shit. supergirl is a good movie based on a good comic.

@DeanBeyerr i think a lot of people had complaints about avengers end game etc for not following infinity gauntlet and same with Gorr’s character being butchered ( pun intended ). im not saying the movie should have followed the comic 1:1 im saying the comics moments were better.

@NoLuckLugia you can like them better but saying they’re objectively better in the way you just did is not correct by any metric. it is an adaptation. i will never ever want these stories to be done shot for shot. i will already know what happens and how it’s going to end. i want new ideas

@NoLuckLugia other comic book movies have taken certain visuals and ideas from the books as well but almost entirely changed the storyline (captain america civil war, infinity war, etc). those films were never criticized for changing anything. these stories are being told through new people

@NoLuckLugia i think it makes perfect sense. that guy was an evil monster and no special prison was established in universe to lock him up. it was the cleanest way to end the film with no loose ends and an epilogue doesn’t work when you want stakes for your characters going forward.

@NoLuckLugia because it’s BASED on the comic😭. we can’t lie and act like there aren’t elements there. it certainly has many of the same themes and ideas. it changed a few things and has a distinct visual identity, but the comic is still very much the basis for the film.

@DeanBeyerr you can adapt the story and make it new but just doesnt make sense to have the comic and comic art involved in a lot of the main promotion for the film. the comics author was even at the world premiere talking about it lol. they literally plastered the comic cover everywhere.

i’m also very tired of people’s mentality regarding comic accuracy and simply not liking something because it’s a change. these stories should never be adapted 1 for 1. they are a basis for creatives to use as a guideline. “not comics accurate” is just a stupid criticism
kaelyn@SPlDERTORCH

y'all are nitpicking the fuck out of supergirl and putting people off of seeing it but when it doesn't turn a profit and that in turn hurts the chance of future movies being made, you're going to bitch that nobody went and saw it in the theater. makes 0 sense to me

@Paliza @luthorsrojas most real world villains don’t have a “motive.” the type of villain he is (a human trafficker) is just a piece of shit scum of the earth kind of person. if the villain was the focus of the story i’d understand the criticism but he was not. he was barely in it.

@luthorsrojas I gave it a 6.5. I wish the villain had some type of motive for being evil, not just being evil. I think lobo wasn’t a complex enough character. Ruthye was annoying and gave nothing to the story. The 2 parents and the daughter shouldn’t have died like that. There was no impact.
