What the Taoiseach doesn’t acknowledge is that the culture war is state imported and state funded, with every state institution waving flags and giving training on how to think.
gript@griptmedia

Taoiseach Micheál Martin confirms he believes that children can be transgender, but says he doesn't want to be drawn into "culture wars like they have in the UK": Gript - "Do you believe that a child can be transgender?" Taoiseach Micheál Martin - "Yes - I do believe [that]."

Brilliant article about Ireland by @SineadOS1 “Ireland spent approximately €1.2 billion in 2025 housing 33,000 asylum seekers in hotels, at roughly €99 per night. Comparatively, the Netherlands runs purpose-built state reception centers at €13.50 per night.” open.substack.com/pub/butthistim…

The enshittification of Ireland and the hollowing out of our institutions is the single largest threat to Irish civil society and prosperity. In this damning piece, I'm going into more detail about the graph I posted yesterday: why it's happening in Ireland, why the way we're thinking about the protests is entirely wrong, and what this means for our collective governance. Link to the article is below!

Every time I run across this architectural abomination in the centre of Trinity College Dublin (as I did today), I ache with aesthetic anguish.

The evolution of Dublin city branding, from the old city crest to the new logo, just unveiled. We seem to have lost a turret along the way.

The Ancient Greeks and Romans probably did not paint their statues in gaudy, matte, heavily saturated colour as most museums claim. They *did* paint them, but: • A 1st-century AD mosaic from the Villa San Marco in Stabiae depicts a statue of a boxer with realistic shading. • Surviving frescos and mosaics from the Classical period show people painted with shading and highlights, the way we paint people today. • There is no evidence at all that they used the gaudy colours that are claimed they used today. I think there are two reasons that this claim has been made. One is just trolling: it is shocking and subversive to say that these cold, beautiful, austere statues would have been painted in such an ugly way by the Greeks and Romans. The second is as a form of relativism: if the Greeks and Romans really did think this looked good, then it suggests that our conceptions of beauty are not innate and universal, but socially constructed instead. worksinprogress.co/issue/were-cla…
