I just spoke with President Trump. Again, I’m very grateful that he and all in attendance were unharmed by the shooter last night because of the heroic work of the Secret Service. I totally agree with his assessment that the presidential ballroom at the White House is a national security necessity. This facility would accommodate large events like the White House Correspondents Dinner and others in the most secure fashion for this president and future presidents. The Secret Service will be one of the largest beneficiaries of the ballroom because they will have immense control over the security environment of future events with a very hardened facility. The most obvious benefit is the President can attend future functions like this without ever having to leave the White House grounds. I also had a good conversation with President Trump about the way forward with Iran and have every confidence that he has many good options to make sure the gains against the Iranian regime are maintained, and most importantly, sustained. The president’s primary goal is to ensure that Iran can never achieve nuclear weapons capability because he is right to believe that the radicals within this regime would use it. President Trump’s decision to cancel the Witkoff-Kushner visit was very wise, in as much as Iran’s response since the ceasefire has been continued attacks on international shipping and more provocation. The blockade has been brilliant in concept and execution. I applaud the president and his team for growing the blockade and making it global. This is by far the weakest the regime has been since 1979 and what follows next, in many ways, will be determined by Iran itself.
