@AndrewLawton In Canada, a suicide is listed on the death certificate as the manner of death. The cause will be ie, asphyxiation or toxic drugs. But by choosing to die by MAiD, “MAiD” does not appear anywhere on a death certificate. For posterity-Geneology & stats-MAiD is a preferable death.

Law professor and MAID advocate says we need to give people with mental illness access to MAID, because otherwise they might commit suicide.

@drpaulwinston Yep I would have happily gone to Vancouver and even paid for this procedure but BC has laws saying that you can't access any medical care in a different BC health region than the one you live in if it is offered there and the same rule applies for private access

Paul Winston MD - Restoring Movement is the goal.
Vancouver based Drs set up the most restrictive policies in Canada in BC that prevents Drs from doing what is normal testing all over North America. These physicians also don’t train specialists for the rest of the province and force patients to wait for treatment or travel so far. It is the time to end these restrictions on normal practice. It can be done safely. The College of physicians and surgeons is doing a great job at addressing it, but they can do nothing if the physicians don’t choose to change.
Zev Ben Meir@ZevBenMeirBC

I just had to fly to Ontario from Vancouver island to get an endoscopy done because the wait time for anything even in a relatively serious situation here is 6+ months. I’m lucky I have medical connections in Toronto Now I’m waiting 6 months for an ultrasound in Nanaimo, BC

an insightful explanation about why reports of problems with respect to MAID practice are scarce (even though they are increasing) and why such reports are to be taken very seriously
Gabrielle Peters 👩🏻‍🦽@mssinenomine

The thing you are required to consider is that the people who speak to the media about being offered MAiD are unusual not bc of what they experienced but bc they are speaking to the media. #DisabledPeopleToldYou this would happen. Ask us how we knew. vancouver.citynews.ca/video/2026/04/…

@TrudoLemmens @CBCHealth @cbcwhitecoat @CityNewsVAN Similar to Miriam Lancaster’s experience at VGH: again, it was “young” doctors that chose to tell an 80+ female patient about the option of MAiD as an available treatment. Why are “young” doctors presenting this option?” Who told them: “Everyone ! Sell/Tell seniors about MAiD? “

@NobbyWStandard @cbcwatcher If the Canadian Psychiatric Association is just being given this mandate when is it to be completed and how is it to be vetted? Or is this like CAMAP developing the guidelines for assessing & providing MAiD? Lots of $ given to develop the guidelines but no oversight in practice.

"The feds revealed it will give close to $1 million to the Canadian Psychiatric Association (CPA) to develop terms related to MAiD for mental illness. This is according to a question and response tabled last week by Conservative MP for Cloverdale—Langley City, Tamara Jansen, who asked for details from Health Canada on the upcoming addition of mental illness as an eligible MAiD criterion." @leahmushet_ @TamaraJansenMP

@CityNewsVAN @Jack__Rabb Why is this UBCs fault? Someone at the IRCC has erred. @Josie_Osborne: let us know you’ve already started the ball rolling to clarify with the IRCC that completion of UBCs bridge program does qualify experienced international midwifes to work in B.C. Time is at the essence here!

If this is accurate and those doctors told her she had to move forward with euthanasia because her organs had been committed, those doctors should not be allowed to practice medicine.
USA NEWS 🇺🇸@usanewshq

It is now confirmed by the hospital that Noelia Castillo Ramos has been euthanized. She reportedly was having second thoughts in the final days, but doctors convinced her to move forward since some of her organs have already been reserved for donation.

@AmandaAchtman @Medic11358726 @GovCanHealth @TamaraJansenMP Will the current AMAD Committee have someone from the Psychiatric Association explain how they feel ready to assist with mental illness requests? Diagnose & provide info about readily available treatment for any one of the DMS 300? Or just rubber stamp the MAiD Type 2 request?

Who exactly is getting @GovCanHealth money to "develop clinical guidance" for psychiatric euthanasia in our country? One day, everything will be brought into the light. Thanks to @TamaraJansenMP for asking the important questions!

“Scottish parliament voted Against legalizing assisted suicide 69 - 57. The parallel bill in England and Wales is also expected to fall, so no part of the UK will have rights to assisted dying in the near future, despite its popularity.” Per The Guardian.

A concept of dignity has been lost when palliative care, a palliative approach to suffering is contemplated. Rather than being pushed away, the palliative team should be introduced as soon as diagnosis is made.
The Christian Institute@christianorguk

We must make sure that help to live is never hidden from view. Stephen Kerr MSP highlights advances in palliative care that mean suffering can often be effectively managed: "that care should never sit quietly in the background, while assisted dying becomes the focus of attention”.

@Medic11358726 If the hospital loses, then it will reverberate throughout Canada to remove the “implied” right of religious based health (hospitals, long term care, hospices etc) to not provide MAiD.

The downfall was because the Delta Hospice Society was not a signatory to the 1995 BC Master Agreement between the province & the Denominational Health Assn that allowed faith-based health providers to opt out of providing medical procedures that were against their faith.
Medic (Claud Regnard)@Medic11358726

Interesting that assisted death enthusiasts describe the Delta Hospice in BC as "failed", despite having been backed by health authorities for 30yrs. Their 'failure' was to give patients the right NOT to be offered an assisted death.

@Medic11358726 Well, it worked until now. There’s now a BC Supreme Court case about someone who had been accepted for MAiD & unfortunately was taken to a Catholic hospital that had signed the Master Agreement. This case isn’t really about the patient, it’s a case to kill the Master Agreement./2
