Today is my last day at Mercy Multiplied. While I'm excited about the next chapter, I'd be remiss if I didn't acknowledge those who've made the past few years worth the journey...

Seattle and Las Vegas are in line to get new NBA teams, @stephenasmith says Nashville should be in the NBA mix too. He’s right. But I think MLB will be next to come to Nashville. My bet is Salt Lake City and Nashville get MLB teams in a few years.

One thing that isn't really being talked about much but needs to is the damage effects that our existing catastrophic ice storm from January left and how this high probability widespread severe weather threat could easily cause severe damage if we end up seeing gusts of 70mph+.
This ice storm did tremendous damage to trees and existing power infrastructure. Most of these areas have not fully recovered and will not fully recover for a good bit. There is still a lot of weak damaged trees out there. We have already seen existing ice storm impacts effect power loss in a few previous events here in middle Tennessee, but with this being a widespread threat, we all need to be preparing for the legit chance of more longer lasting power outages. More info will come over the next day or so, but please stay glued to the forecast.

@bobby_boyd1946 Probably one of the reasons SPC scaled back that 10% hatched risk. Hopefully people respect the fact this storm has a ceiling potential of CAT-1 hurricane force winds.

5 am 3/15 update for Nashville on severe threat. Looks like a quick hitting QLCS with damaging wind storms with a spin up possible along the leading edge moving into Nashville just before 10 pm wIth FROPA passage shortly thereafter. Although a spin up is possible anywhere along the QLCS, updraft helicity swaths, CAPE, jet structure, and kenematics
Would favor northern Mississippi southern part of west Tennessee (including the Memphis area) and southwest Middle TN and northern Alabama. AI has keyed on these areas for some time now. #ALwx #TNwx #MSwx #KYwx #MOwx

BIG CHANGES coming to SPC severe weather outlooks starting March 2nd of this year. The Storm Prediction Center is adding "Conditional Intensity Forecasts" to their Day 1, 2, and 3 outlooks, which is a game changer for understanding severe weather threats. Right now you see risk categories like Slight or Moderate, but those don't really tell you how intense the storms could be. The new forecasts fix that by highlighting specific areas where storms could produce significant tornadoes (EF2+), giant hail (2+ inches), or destructive winds (75+ mph). The "conditional" part means it's based on IF storms actually develop in that area, so it's answering "how bad could it get?" instead of just "will there be severe weather?" This makes it way easier to tell the difference between a day with some weak tornadoes versus a serious outbreak with violent long track tornadoes, even if the overall severe weather probabilities look similar.
This will be giving forecasters, emergency managers, and the public a much clearer picture of the actual danger level when conditions line up right. Especially on big weather days.

@PettusWX I’m in Dickson County. Could have been better sure…but also could have been worse (I.e. anywhere in Alabama).

Why is it some take momentary solace in the Lord yet feel less assured within His sovereignty? In this new series, I'll unpack answers as to why we project insecurity when we're dislodged from truth.

@bobby_boyd1946 Seems like there's more atmospheric juice than what the HRRR is letting on...

Storm evolution as noted from the top of my car. About 2” of snow, 1” of sleet, and 0.50” of freezing rain. You can clearly see the two waves here. #tnwx #tnspotter

@PettusWX So the temp in White Bluff is 33 but I got to think the rain is still freezing upon contact, correct? Is there a place I can go to check ground temperature readings as opposed to surface/2-meter temps? @bobby_boyd1946
English

Above freezing, but I dont think it helps much. The damage has already been done. Everything will refreeze, we will enter another period of freezing rain with maybe a mix of sleet and snow on the back side. But I am still most concerned about the wind picking up.
Our HRRR model thinks another quarter inch or so is possible mostly along and west of i65.

Winter Storm Warnings have now been issued for 1,312 counties across the country. This is a new record for a single storm surpassing Feb 15, 2021
