I just had a good call with President Trump. Canada is implementing our $1.3 billion border plan — reinforcing the border with new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with our American partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl. Nearly 10,000 frontline personnel are and will be working on protecting the border.   In addition, Canada is making new commitments to appoint a Fentanyl Czar, we will list cartels as terrorists, ensure 24/7 eyes on the border, launch a Canada- U.S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering. I have also signed a new intelligence directive on organized crime and fentanyl and we will be backing it with $200 million.   Proposed tariffs will be paused for at least 30 days while we work together.

Je viens d’avoir un appel productif avec le Président Trump. Le Canada met en œuvre notre plan frontalier de 1,3 milliard de dollars — on renforce la frontière avec de nouveaux hélicoptères, de nouvelles technologies, plus de personnel, une coordination accrue avec nos partenaires américains et plus de ressources pour lutter contre le trafic de fentanyl. Près de 10 000 agents sont et seront sur le terrain pour protéger notre frontière.   En plus, le Canada prend de nouveaux engagements. On va nommer un Tsar responsable de la question du fentanyl, ajouter les cartels mexicains à la liste des entités terroristes, s’assurer qu’on garde un œil sur la frontière 24 heures sur 24, 7 jours sur 7, et lancer, avec les États-Unis, une force de frappe conjointe sur le crime organisé, le trafic de fentanyl et le blanchiment d’argent. J’ai aussi signé une nouvelle directive pour les services de renseignement, axée sur le crime organisé et le fentanyl, qui sera appuyée par un investissement de 200 millions de dollars.   Les tarifs douaniers proposés seront mis sur pause pour au moins 30 jours, pendant qu’on travaille ensemble là-dessus.
