The injuries to Westburg and Holliday really helped Mountcastle keep a spot on the roster.
I think Samuel Basallo is going to become a full-time player this season. But early on, he’s probably going to be giving up LHP opportunities to Mountcastle at DH.

Mike Elias said Ryan Mountcastle could be more than just a bench bat. "Mounty has historically been great against left-handed pitching, so I think he's going to be a front-line player for us," Elias said. "... We'll figure out a way to help him impact games for us."

Honestly this tells me Orioles are committed to a 6-man rotation, but want to wait until after the first couple turns through the rotation to put it into action. Tough to run a 6-man and keep guys from going too long between starts first couple weeks. 3 off days before 13th game.

Not gonna lie… I had this thought in the back of my head. If they’d option Dean just to keep him on his scheduled starts since it’s tough to go 6-man early. But then I thought “nah, not a chance they option Dean, that’s crazy.”
