Korra haters aren't as open to change and evolution as concepts as they think they are. irl they're young and "woke" and all, but when it comes up avatar stuff they revert back to a "traditionalist" mindset that the old ways were "better" (🧵)

This scene is a good example of my issue with metalbending in Korra. In the original series, Toph had to be in physical contact with the metal, because it was much harder to bend than actual earth, because she was bending the impurities within it. Meanwhile, the metal bending in Korra is basically the opposite, they actually bend with far more precision than anyone bends earth with, which doesn't make any sense. It's kinda in the same vein as the lavabending, where instead of applying any actual logic to it, they treated the bending as pure sorcery. Korra doesn't learn it from anyone, she just has it, because she has more Bending Midiclorians than everyone else, I guess.

@kasatnight @theboredmoor But that's not even a rule in TLA. People seem to only remember how Toph escaped and nothing else after that. In season 3 she literally levitates and shapeshifts a space rock (which is mainly metal, since it made sword) and in finale she does metal armor and bends other metals.

@Touyarokii Btw. Tenzin should've been there with the rest of Korra's team. While not officially, he's pretty much as close to Korra as the rest of them. And in shows he worked alongside Korra for longer than Zuko alongside Aang.

There is only one element to debate here, If we are talking at the time of ATLA.
Bumi is shown to be a force of nature, and he has a 100 year head start on Toph.
Ozai is shown to obviously be the most powerful firebender
There’s only one air bender in ATLA, Aang. I also believe he was the most powerful up until his death.
Water is the only toss up, it’s possible Katara, especially as she is older than Toph, could be on a similar level to the scant few other waterbenders we’re shown.
All these characters in time could grow powerful enough to be number one, but no 12 or 14 years old is owning masters with decades in their craft.

@ginandjuniper I recall him saying to Kya (after both complain to Tenzin he was Aang's favorite and went to so many trips with him they couldn't go) something like that at least she could bond with Katara over waterbending, something he couldn't do as well. Overall, one of the better episodes.

him being a non-bender was better for his character, but being an airbender proves aang played favorites and just continuously proves the villains points about non-benders being second class citizens.

@DaddyTonraq Toph literally levitates and reshapes a mettalic rock between her hands just few episodes after discovering metal bending. Pretty much chronologically second notable usage of metal bending she does (and between escape and space rock I think she only bends ships on screen).

@AllAboutKorra There's so many spirits that didn't care about portals being closed in TLA. What Korra did was basically allow lesser/weaker spirits and humans to travel between worlds.
