"If you put the number by somebody's name and try to determine how hard you're gonna play by a number, then you're dumb." @TexasTechMBB head coach Grant McCasland responds to conversations surrounding upsets and how the team approached today's game vs. Akron.

College Sports are broken, and those who first made the mess and profit handsomely from the status quo do not want to fix it. Without meaningful change, opportunities for thousands and thousands of talented student athletes will disappear and women’s and Olympics sports programs will be canceled. A disjointed and disorganized revenue generation system is the root cause, and everybody in college sports knows it - including many members of the Big 10 and SEC, who have recently reported staggering and unsustainable athletic deficits and debts. Ironically, at least one of these two commissioners, who argue that the status quo is “just fine”, have simultaneously pursued onerous private equity and debt deals to paper over the overwhelming deficits many of their member institutions face. The situation is even more dire in the lower-revenue conferences, as is well known. Our primary objective is to provide athletic programs, both big and small, the tools they need to achieve financial sustainability and preserve all of their programs, scholarships, and roster spots. We want to grow the financial pie, and make it work for everybody - doing so in a way that doesn’t not punish or take revenue away from the “big boys”. Not only is this the right thing to do, it is also consistent with the President’s “Saving College Sports” Executive Order, that was issued last summer. The posture of these two commissioners indicates that they do not care about the fate of the other conferences or smaller schools, nor do they care about the life-changing opportunity provided to women and to athletes in our Olympic sports. It seems they have chosen to disregard the directives of the President and the will of the American people. Change is difficult, I get that, especially when it means dismantling a long-held, broken, backwards system. My sincere hope is that, instead of throwing up roadblocks to our congressional momentum, we can work together on solutions that put the student athletes first and preserves the viability of the great American institution of college sports.

Two things that make for a perfect afternoon at the United Supermarkets Arena: 1) a great win by @TexasTechMBB against a Top 10 team and 2) watching our student body and fans come out on a snowy day to show the nation what the best college BB atmosphere looks and sounds like . #WreckEm #TexasTech

Not sure there’s another place in the country that would have 15k fans show up, with the current weather in Lubbock, TX. THANK YOU, Red Raider Nation. #WreckEm

Final thoughts from last night’s incredible night in Lubbock: 1. Tremendous game plan to slow not stop @BYUMBB AJ Dybantsa by @TexasTechMBB. Packed the lane on his dribble-downs & walled up without fouling. @AtwellDonovan is a dawg! 2. Rob Wright is unguardable at college level. Picked his spots perfectly to play in AND OUT of the offense. 3. FOUR athletic defenders over 6-6 guarded @chrisanders2024 and the slowed him down but NOT stop him. 4. My friend @JCrossover should be very proud of freshman Jaylen Petty. He represents the “206” perfectly. 5. On a big @Big12Conference game night, there are a few better places in the country than United Supermarkets Arena. 6. Aside from being a great player, Richie Saunders is the master of the 50-50 ball. 7. Kudos to a Final Four level officiating crew. They met the moment and let the players decide the game. I never take for granted what get to do, so thanks for last night, Lubbock! 🏀👍🏼❤️

I am aware that Tech faithful fans like to identify as a rebellious lot, and as such, I know there are those among us who will want to push back on today’s “No Tortillas,” edict.   This program is about so much more than the tossing of tortillas in the air.  It is about winning the Big XII, and it is about building a program of lasting, national significance. Too many have sacrificed and invested too much time, money, and sweat to be distracted by a tortilla debate.     This is not about a lack of leadership, or the bending of a knee.  We do not hold the moral high ground on this matter.  How do we defend, and continue to support fans throwing tortillas, or anything else, at our opponents, or on the field?   No other program in the country would condone this, and we haven’t condoned it in other sports, either, outside of the Jones.   Bottoms line is, I want to win! At this point, tortillas don’t make that easier.   Our heritage is defined by the Red and Black, not by a flour Tortilla.  Wreck ‘Em
