Providing public safety is a primary function of our City government. The Austin Police Department’s General Orders were revised earlier this year to assure our officers can best meet local public safety needs, maximize the use of our limited police resources, and provide much needed clarity to officers when encountering ICE administrative warrants. We believe the revised General Orders are consistent with state requirements, including SB4. The City of Austin has made great progress on public safety— but our APD officers do not have the capacity—and should not be asked— to do the jobs of other entities. There is great irony that the state would try to punish the City for providing services that keep Austinites safe by threatening grants that keep Austin safe. The grants being threatened include one that provides services to peace officers who experience trauma on the job. They also include one that help survivors of sexual assault get justice and one that improves the ability to respond to violent crimes against women. The letter threatening the City is not about keeping Texans safe. We will continue to focus on providing public safety. We will continue to support our officers. We will continue to fight for justice for sexual assault survivors and survivors of domestic abuse. We don’t have the time and will not play into this political theater.

It’s no longer a question about whether the City should go to court. We’re already there. The Mayor and City Council must vigorously defend the law we voted for and that the City Attorney deemed legal. Here’s a 5.9M condo in Manhattan. It’ll be bought by someone Mamdani/Hochul claim isn’t paying their “fair share”. They’ll pay a $132,000 mansion tax at closing. And then pay $5200 a month in property taxes. Mamdani and Hochul will now add another tax to this bill.

Going to be fun to watch. What is happening today reminds me of Newt and the contract with America. They did what they said they were going to do and the country supported it. If Trump manages to successfully address Venezuela, Iran (including the Strait of Hormuz), and Cuba after having removed Chinese control of the Panama Canal, and entering into a Malaysian joint-military relationship to put our Navy in the the Malarcca Strait thereby putting 80% of China’s oil imports at risk (awarding the US massive/unheralded leverage) then how can anyone argue it was all understaken and accomplished by Trump just hamhandedly throwing darts at a wall and hoping for the best? The obvious answer is you can't. It will be considered some of the most bold & courageous moves ever made in world history. Moves whose outcomes will reshape the humanity moving forward. Trump went all in, and on the grandest stage of all time. And by all appearances, this is EXACTLY where things look to be heading. What will the late-state TDS crowd say then? They won't be able to stand the adulation coming his way. Sadly, many of them are going to lose their damn minds, more than we've ever seen. And I mean like legit lose them.
