Not all blind people use screen readers and not all users of screen readers are blind. Blindness is not a binary. Low vision is also a thing. PDFs are not accessible to many low vision users. No matter how you make them or how well they are supported.

Disabled people don’t want access designed by nondisabled people. The first rule of access must be to consult with and follow the lead of disabled people.

A year ago, a non-academic friend listened to a talk I gave. I thought it went great. My friend disagreed. She said that academics are experts at making interesting stuff boring—and that we should all take a speech class. So I did. And here are 6 most useful things I learned.
