Pope Leo XIV warned journalists that information must avoid becoming “propaganda” during a meeting with Italian broadcaster RAI’s TG2 newsroom at the Vatican marking its 50th anniversary. The Pope urged reporters to verify news and avoid becoming a “megaphone of power,” especially when covering wars. He also encouraged journalists to tell conflicts through the eyes of victims, warning that war must not be portrayed “like a video game.” The Pope also stressed the need to regulate AI and new technologies according to a human-centered approach to communication.

In an article published today following his private audience with Pope Leo XIV, British financial journalist Gareth Gore—author of “Opus [Dei]: dark money, a secretive cult, and its mission to remake our world”— says it was the Pope who requested the meeting. Gore writes that a Peruvian journalist contacted him several weeks ago saying Pope Leo XIV “was well aware” of his work on Opus Dei and “was keen to speak” with him.
