Pierre Poilievre: "We're never gonna be the 51st state, so I just wish [Trump] would knock that sh*t off so we can get back to talking about the things that we can do as two separate countries that are actually friends."
Pierre Poilievre on Joe Rogan changes nothing for Alberta.
Sure, it will be interesting to watch. Sure, I would still rather have Pierre Poilievre in office than Mark Carney for however much time Canada has left before Alberta goes its own way.
But let’s be honest about what this actually means.
It is too little, too late.
This is what the Conservative Party always does. They move late, they misread the moment, and they play politics like they are always one step behind.
If Pierre was going to make a move like this, where was it a year ago?
Where was this when it could have actually shifted momentum?
Now the Liberals are surging again, and the Conservatives are scrambling to do what they should have done long ago.
But more importantly, even if Pierre won, it would not solve the core problem for Alberta.
A Conservative government is not going to end equalization.
It is not going to fix Alberta’s lack of representation in this country.
It is not going to change the reality that Alberta continues to bankroll a system that works against our interests.
It might slow the decline. It might reverse some bad policies.
But it does not fix the structure itself.
That is why Alberta independence is the only real path forward.
