Typically the element that’s most opposite the Avatar’s personality is the most difficult for them. For Korra it was air, for Aang it was earth, and for Roku it was water.

The absolute vast majority of them are obvious stuff. The most complex ones tend to be psychic and the two types made for balancing: Dark and Fairy.
Other than that you can guess or at least understand most of them

The vast majority of type matchups are exactly like that. The only less obvious ones are types like fairy and dragon, but even then, it's not that complicated if you put two brain cells into it
