this is insane, Escape! is top 100 in literary fiction, right next to the king of jungle novels, without even a cover. Thank you so much to everyone who has pre-ordered. And if you haven't, please help me take William Golding down a peg & pre-order now @ stephenfishbach.com

This paper extends our neurodiversity work, with Patrick Dwyer's and others' ability to write, explain, deeply analyze, mentor, incorporate latest literature, lead meticulous coding frameworks, all on the side showing the benefits of growing autistic scholarship as field matures.
Proserpinae@kgillyn

Our paper about neurodiversity, models of disability, and intervention preferences is out. Led by Patrick Dwyer, with a stellar team. It is a sequel to our 2013 Dev Psych Neurodiversity paper and I think it has a depth and power that is 11 years stronger: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/13…

New paper on how neurodiversity movement views (including for autistic leadership & societal reform) apply to autistic ppl, including autistic parents of autistic ppl, while even "strong" supporters of the social model of disability support some individualized interventions.👇

So excited to see this published! See Steven’s thread for a summary of research on the acceptability of intervention goals for people in autism and #autistic communities, looking at effects of being close to an autistic person with an intellectual disability. #AcademicTwitter

Our new paper @AutismAdulthood found much consensus against normalization & for well-being, societal reform & supportive environments in autism community: findings were robust to closeness to autistics w/ intellectual disabilities & nonspeaking autistics. liebertpub.com/doi/10.1089/au…

Monique Botha is actually they/them 🤷🏻‍♀️
Genuinely think it's about time neurodiversity informed researchers get together and write guidelines for ethics committees about doing research with autistic people and their families and communities.

@SketchesbyBoze It may not be marketed for this purpose, but this could be super helpful for disabled folks and/or people with intellectually disabilities to be able to access books they haven’t been able to. I see the dangers you’re talking about, but this is an accessibility matter too

Boze Herrington, Library Owl 😴🧙‍♀️
Here’s the thing: the musicality of language, the poetry, is part of what draws readers into a book and makes them fall in love. If you strip away all the beauty from a novel like The Great Gatsby, you’re not making it more accessible; you’re making it unreadable.

In the novel Fahrenheit 451, the abolition of reading began with tech companies simplifying books into summaries that you could read in five minutes. Because people no longer engaged with the texts, they forgot how to think. Then came the book-burnings.

DSM diagnoses are social constructs!! As an #Autistic person, I desperately craved the validation of an “official” diagnosis. But after getting it, I see that to (re)claim a neurodivergent identity is to disrupt the mental health industrial complex #abolition #antipsychiatry
