This paper extends our neurodiversity work, with Patrick Dwyer's and others' ability to write, explain, deeply analyze, mentor, incorporate latest literature, lead meticulous coding frameworks, all on the side showing the benefits of growing autistic scholarship as field matures.

Our paper about neurodiversity, models of disability, and intervention preferences is out. Led by Patrick Dwyer, with a stellar team. It is a sequel to our 2013 Dev Psych Neurodiversity paper and I think it has a depth and power that is 11 years stronger: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/13…

Genuinely think it's about time neurodiversity informed researchers get together and write guidelines for ethics committees about doing research with autistic people and their families and communities.

@SketchesbyBoze It may not be marketed for this purpose, but this could be super helpful for disabled folks and/or people with intellectually disabilities to be able to access books they haven’t been able to. I see the dangers you’re talking about, but this is an accessibility matter too

Here’s the thing: the musicality of language, the poetry, is part of what draws readers into a book and makes them fall in love. If you strip away all the beauty from a novel like The Great Gatsby, you’re not making it more accessible; you’re making it unreadable.

In the novel Fahrenheit 451, the abolition of reading began with tech companies simplifying books into summaries that you could read in five minutes. Because people no longer engaged with the texts, they forgot how to think. Then came the book-burnings.

DSM diagnoses are social constructs!! As an #Autistic person, I desperately craved the validation of an “official” diagnosis. But after getting it, I see that to (re)claim a neurodivergent identity is to disrupt the mental health industrial complex #abolition #antipsychiatry

@DrVickiGibbs @DrAmyPearson @DesiRJones It seems that this was the first year that an openly autistic person was keynote at #INSAR2024 and hopefully it sets precedent that *every year* at least one of the *three* keynotes is. This would recognize the endless contributions of autistic researchers for what we are doing
