Let’s illustrate with the Coral Balanced Fund that has done 48% YTD.
If you had invested ₦1,000,000 lump sum in January and leave it till now:
1. Gross Return (before fees)
Fund YTD return = 48%.
₦1,000,000 × 48% = ₦480,000 profit.
Gross portfolio value = ₦1,480,000.
2. After Management Fee (2.5%)
Annual fee = 2.5% × ₦1,480,000 ≈ ₦37,000.
Net return ≈ ₦480,000 – ₦37,000 = ₦443,000.
Final value ≈ ₦1,443,000.
If you invested ₦1m at once in January, you’d end the year with about ₦1.443m after fees, meaning the fund charged you roughly ₦37k.
But here’s the thing, it seems small yes, just 2.5% right?
But the longer you stay, the bigger the fees drag
In 10 years:
Without fees (48%): ₦1m → ₦53m.
With fees (45.5%): ₦1m → ₦44m.
That’s ₦9m gone to fees, even though the percentage was “just 2.5%.”

One mistake investors make in Mutual Funds is ignoring the Fund’s Expense Ratio. Many investors overlook this, focusing only on a fund's returns without considering the costs. Every mutual fund has costs - management fees, administrative fees, etc. These are all calculated into the expense ratio, expressed as a percentage of assets you own. High expense ratios can significantly eat into your returns over time. Compare expense ratios. When choosing between similar funds, compare their expense ratios. Passive index funds, which simply replicate a market index, typically have much lower fees than actively managed funds. Check how much you’re being charged.

The way things are going, I think Rosenior can't wait to have Penders join Chelsea next season.
I would like him to stay there for one more season, but I'm not sure Rosenior is ready to tolerate Sanchez and Jorgensen for another season.
Sanchez isn't bad, but he can't play Rosenior's short-passing buildup football. So, at this point, I will be surprised if Penders doesn't stay at Chelsea next season.
