Did you know we briefly removed pickles from our classic burger recipe in 1958? The decision was quickly reversed in 1959 based on customer feedback – pickle aficionados rejoice! I learned about this passionate (pre-social media) response during a recent trip to our Archives.

The unveiling of the new “Herman Petty Way” on Chicago’s historic South Side symbolizes the legacy of tenacity and courage Herman stood for, and the McDonald’s System is better because of his contributions.

Our founder Ray Kroc once said that to be successful you must be daring, be first, and be different. Herman Petty, the first Black owner/operator to join the McDonald’s System in 1968, embodied all those things.
