This post gathered a lot of interest and a variety of views about what being Irish means. I accept all views. I lived in NYC for 10 yrs and in Ireland for 30, hopefully for many more. Before last week I never felt unwelcome anywhere on this globe.

I was born in Sweden. I have lived and worked in Ireland for 30 years. I have 3 Irish/Swedish kids. Today I was told by a person that 'you are not even Irish'. What have we become? Happy St Patrick's Day - I love this country 😟

I personally know a person in his 30s that passed away some years ago, another in his 30s who survived but was very ill. Bacterial meningitis a a very serious illness, arrives quickly and can lead to septicemia. Thankfully vaccination programmes have improved.

Huge thanks to the incredible medical team at Jabal Amel Hospital in Tyre for patching me up after yesterday’s I$raeli airstrike.
Paramedics, doctors, nurses and support staff here are true heroes — working under relentless pressure, with more than 30 emergency workers killed by I$rael since March 2.
Even after the hospital itself was badly damaged in a recent strike, they refuse to abandon their patients and courageously remain in the field.

Today I$rael tried to kill me in a targeted airstrike in southern Lebanon as I was reporting on was the targeting of bridges and the forced displacement of 1 million people, an ethnic cleansing operation on a larger scale than the Nakba
I have absolutely no doubt that this was deliberate. Despite claims there were no warnings ahead of the strike and no notifications sent to the Lebanese Army who allowed us to film
As we have seen in Gaza they want to silence journalists who document and report their war crimes
It is the western powers who provide political and military support for I$rael, arming it to the teeth to carry out genocide in Gaza and ethnic cleansing here in Lebanon. They are not simply complicit, but active participants and should be held accountable for their actions.
But if I$rael thinks today’s strike will silence us and keep us out of the field they are very, very mistaken
