Now The Crucible's long term future as World Championship host has been secured, I don't think the Snooker Gods won't be as benevolent as to lift the Curse. Had next year been definitively the final Crucible edition, then there would definitely been a new winner this year...

@Martynw34 He was my favourite player when I started watching tennis as a child (circa 1987). I didn't understand much about the styles of play back then and I assume that his nationality played a part for my liking. But I remember that he was well appreciated by the fans when he was active
