🟢 Walid Haniyeh, 32, a commander in Hamas’s Qassam Brigades and a nephew of the late Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, died Friday of critical wounds sustained a day earlier in an Israeli drone strike in the Al-Nasr neighborhood west of Gaza City, The Cradle reported. Crowds of mourners flooded the streets of Gaza City for his funeral, in a show of support for the slain resistance fighter. His uncle, Ismail Haniyeh, was assassinated by Israel in Tehran in July 2024 while serving as Hamas’s chief negotiator. More than 60 members of the Haniyeh family have been killed by Israel over the course of the war, Al Jazeera reported in August 2024.

The status quo is Enlightenment modernity. The most radical challenge to this status quo is not Marxist redistribution of material goods. Rather it is liberating humanity from the Enlightenment's purely materialisic scientific worldview. The doctrines, rituals, and practices of Islam are the most effective mechanisms for opening the human mind to a hidden higher dimension of reality, centered around God. This is why all statistical data shows that Muslim populations have the highest levels of religious belief. Yes, Islam creates strong feelings of belonging as well. But it is not simply belonging to a race, tribe, or family. Rather it is belonging to a people oriented towards the highest reality and devoted to God.
