The thing is I applied for studying in a prestigious university in KSA.Despite having solid credentials,I was rejected.Did a little bit of digging and found that Kuffar and Westerners are preferred their especially US,UK etc.

@FPolymath592 Interestingly Tippu could eloquently speak and write at least 7 languages, 13 acc to some sources, including sanskrit n Kannada. Urdu was his mother tongue. Persian was the official state language. He's praised by even Kannada hindu historians for his justice.

My paternal grand parents were from South India and spoke Urdu were proficient in it.One family member served in Tipu's Army.All Urdu speakers.There are local languages but they spoke Urdu.

Like Persian was the lingua franca of the Muslim elite before the British, so was Urdu after, and unlike Persian, it isn't even tied to a specific ethnicity. Be proficient in your native language but would never understand such pure hatred for one of the top 3 Islamic languages.

@FPolymath592 Urdu is still the traditionally islamic language. All madaris, mostly affiliated from deoband, like hundreds present in Mys, B'lore still study deen in Urdu, with little Persian. All khutbas happen in Urdu. It's just that the educated folks, who send their kids to private schools

@FPolymath592 Dakhni was the ancient Muslim proto language in the Deccan region of South India, it eventually fused into Urdu after Mughals made Urdu as official language. My parents gen everyone could write n read Urdu. Today, not everyone can write but can speak n understand very well.
