I was in a meeting where the Dean said, as they’ve said before, “we’re going to have to do more with less” and I replied “or maybe we just do less with less” and the room got really quiet. I think about that sometimes.

Yeah, @FlyBehaviour .... her response to me pointing out basic facts about taxation and representation -- covered in most middle schools in the USA and Canada-- was to say "whatever you want to believe" and then block me.
Dr Amanda Moehring@FlyBehaviour

@JohnStinchcombe @RadMothering Her response to basic facts is ‘if you say so, lol.’ The kids in that homeschool are going to have a rough go later on if they try to make their way out into the real world. Sigh.

@RadMothering @FlyBehaviour Actually, you're not taxed w/o representation, in any way, shape, or form. You have elected officials, school boards, and the chance to vote in local, municipal, state, and federal elections.

Homeschool curriculum for this next go round the sun has been ordered. $555.84 after the 15% discount. Add another $500 or so in books and subscriptions... then another $300 or so in supplies, maybe $300 more for one offs here and there, and that's about what we spend annually educating several children (6 presently at home for school.) Why are government institutions doing it so poorly and managing tax money so ineffectively?

@RadMothering You are not taxed without representation. Your government representatives don't evaporate when you homeschool (that you don't know this is alarming). You are also literally proving my point. The cost of education is more than the cost of school supplies. Include those.

See second response to you. If you think housing costs and transport costs are free... labour costs come in paying for personal doctor care, for chiro care because I'm on my feet all day... Then there are water, heat, electricity... all not free and we pay for it twice because we are also paying school taxes. There's nothing dishonest about my representation. I'm taxed, as is every homeschool family, without representation.

@RadMothering You used a dishonest representation of costs of education, where you are providing all of the labor and facilities for free. How about you address that before changing the topic?

@FlyBehaviour If you've ever looked at a line item of a district budget ($1B in SPPS with declining enrollment and disgustingly low test scores) you'd see that the tax monies collected pay for admin bloat.

Folks focus on the lack of action of Democrats, but the utter spinelessness of Republicans is even more grotesque.

I need people to understand how difficult it is to get an NIH grant. You spend months writing a proposal, following strict guidelines that include a detailed multiyear budget, bios of everyone on your team, plans for participant safety & ethical conduct. Then you send it off -1/n

Cis-male faculty at Canadian Universities, have you ever called out sexism witnessed by colleagues in real time? Willing to share anecdotes about the context even if you can’t share names? Working on a story about gender equity for @UA_magazine. Please reach out and RT!

@DamianTysdal @JoyceCarolOates No, it's "won't show actual data and thinks a fox news is data" I'm done here play. You don't seem worried about those boy children having surgeries mutilating their bodies to remove breast tissue. You're not concerned for children, you're just anti-trans.

@FlyBehaviour @JoyceCarolOates Ah, the "Fox News, I'm Done Here" play. Is it ok for hundreds of children to have their body mutilated every year, as long as it's not thousands?

"they are sterilizing kids"--- who is "they"? is this "sterilization" a government procedure? are the "kids" young children? does this happen at school? (T***p was claiming this absurdity.) which schools, when? this is actually news to many Americans who (presumably) don't watch Fox News or other rightwing outlets that have been demonizing a tiny fraction of the US population. but trying to understand those who do; realizing that, for those who believe that this is a threat tantamount to the threat of climate change/ our endangered environment, it is a very real issue.

@JoyceCarolOates They're sterilizing kids, Joyce. This bothers people.

@DamianTysdal @JoyceCarolOates A fox news interview is not data. Even if these numbers were true (which I doubt) this is ~750 per year. Nowhere near your fear-mongering number of 14,000. You start with a made-up number then cite fox news as your proof. So I'm done here.

That data is a bit older (see below) but the point stands: We, in fact, are permanently altering children's bodies due to gender confusion and we should stop. Justifying this by pointing out a different procedure is not honest. "Leor Sapir, PhD, a fellow at the Manhattan Institute whose areas of research include pediatric gender medicine, shared that anywhere from 5,288 to 6,294 double mastectomies were performed on girls under age 18 between 2017 and 2023 — and that 50 to 179 of those girls were just 12-½ years old or younger. The actual numbers could be higher, the Manhattan Institute claims, because researchers did not include patients who paid for the procedure themselves without submitting an insurance claim." foxnews.com/health/gender-…

Not sure why you would think gynecomastia surgery would be included here, but that is typically addressed with surgery after puberty (17-18) and most common later in life. Seems like you are excusing the mutilation of thousands of children (under 18) by bringing up dumb comparisons.
