I just had a fantastic opportunity to attend Viruses 2024 - A World of Viruses, a meeting in Barcelona, and present an invited talk on our research on RNA virus superinfection exclusion. The meeting was highly inspirational with many great talks, posters, and discussions!

“Ten years ago I was kicked out and forced to retire.” Our new medicine laureate Katalin Karikó (@kkariko) told us how much it means to be awarded the Nobel Prize after a scientific career that has been full of challenges. Ten years ago, Karikó was still doing all her experiments by hand but today she has been awarded the medicine prize for her research on mRNA, which led to the development of COVID-19 vaccines. Sad to lose Prof. Tom German, UW-Madison Plant Path Dept. As a postdoc he set me up with a great project for my PhD research. He was always fascinated by biology, funny, humble, a great story teller and a cool dude. A big loss for plant virology.

@Annealiz1 Indeed, this is very sad news. D'Ann's research work had a big impact on Plant Virology. She will be sorely missed.

So sad to report plant virologist D'Ann Rochon passed away today after brave 2 yr battle with cancer. D'Ann worked for Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada for 30 yrs and was a pioneer in the field of tombusviruses, incl 1st infectious clone. Wonderful person, will be sorely missed
