@riccirox You aren’t wrong but I was referencing his assists per 90, hence the visual

@FootballEcon_ Poor use of statistics. This isn't his most creative season - 22/23 was. 16+ xA, 33 big chances, 119 KPs. He didn't get many assists then because he played with worse forwards. His passing also looks statistically less aggressive because he played in CM for half the season.

Bruno Fernandes is having his most creative Premier League season yet, by being less attack-minded. No longer so aggressive in forcing the ball forward, he is showing patience and maintaining possession under pressure, allowing attacks to form before executing his killer pass.

@FtblOli Disagree, can’t leave Doku/Semenyo against a winger on a yellow so Rice got moved to fullback, nullifying him for the last 20 minutes

@FootballEcon_ A booking is very low value when you're 2-0 up with 20 mins to play. The EV is strongly negative as the flip side is firing up the opponent at a time when some impetus was exactly what Arsenal were missing

@FootballEcon_ Amazing stuff. Been reading the same book and I have ideas related to the same concept. Your explanation here is so crisp, it will help me a lot as well.

Player Translation between leagues has really fascinated me recently, partly due to reading Ian Graham's book, How to Win the Premier League. So I've begun building my own models, demonstrated here by Luciano Valente.

Models like these can be endlessly developed and iterated, with a huge number of variables that can be worked in. For me, I'll look to build a 'Player Replacement' branch, where we look specifically at how a player would be able to replace another in the target team.

The starting point for a model like this is to build some sort of league/team rankings/ELO/comparison model, then introduce league and team characteristics. The degree to which you involve variables also depends on your purpose and application.

Trying to label him is tricky, he's almost presenting a new midfield archetype, something like a box-to-box playmaker. His passing ability is not limited to one purpose, while his athleticism facilitates the movement between his defensive third and attacking third.

Hayden Hackney produced another huge performance today, in the 4-0 demolition of QPR. What's so unique about him? He is exceptional in both progression and creation. The Pivot Bruno Fernandes.

James Garner has been enjoying an excellent campaign for Everton, and looks to be developing into a top Premier League Midfielder. As United search for their Casemiro successor, a reunion with the Carrington graduate could become a tempting option.
