@persxn_fps A lot of men are processing this research right now, and those feelings are valid. The frenular delta is real, the loss is real, and so is the science working to address it. Foregen is building a tissue-engineered solution to restore what was taken.

nonreligious routine neonatal circumcision is under discussed as one of the weirder american habits. literally nobody else in the world does it outside of religious reasons! it’s bizarre!

Circumcision is on the decline in the US. For the first time in decades, less than 50% of American newborn boys are circumcised. You might think this is due to demographic shifts. Latinos have very low circumcision rates, and are a larger and increasing share of total births. And this is part of it. But what's also interesting is the decline amongst white Americans. They declined by 5.3pts, from 65.3% to 60.0%. And it's not just a wealth or insurance thing either. The wealthiest Americans, the top income decile, experienced one of the largest declines. In 2022, only 51.4% of them were circumcised, nearly 10pts lower than 2012.

@stooobless I don't think it should ever be done on a minor unless there is a justified medical reason, and other non invasive measures have been unsuccessful.
Children cannot consent - so non emergent / non medically necessary procedures should not be done.

@StatisticUrban This is a meaningful cultural shift. But for 1+ billion circumcised men worldwide who wish they'd had that choice, the conversation doesn't end here. Foregen is working on a real path to biological restoration.

If circumcision were a decision left to men themselves—something that could only happen once they reached an age of consent—the practice would fade away on its own.
Because when you strip away tradition, routine, and decisions made on behalf of infants, you’re left with a simple question: would an informed adult voluntarily choose to surgically remove part of their own body?
Most wouldn’t. Especially part of your genitals!
The persistence of the practice depends largely on the fact that the choice is made before the individual has any say in the matter. Once consent enters the equation, the calculus changes entirely.
