@StevenMcinerney @LNobbins There’s deffo something to be said about buying reis a year earlier than we needed him. If we have 3 centre backs leaving next summer clubs know we’re desperate and hold us to ransom. Instead we get a nicer deal, Reis gets the same experience on loan (+in europe) win win imo.

I think as a fanbase we might just have to accept that City are lying in the bed that they made. If Akanji was to go, Reis would stay. But we can't move on everyone this summer. It just isn't possible for a fuck load of reasons. It's unfortunate, but they are obviously aware of this, have accepted it and they're doing the best they can to prep these guys (with real intentions IMO) for integration when the next batch of older players moves on. There is space for Nypan, Echeverri, Bah, Reis etc coming up. Just a year or so from now. Not ideal, but that's life. Transitions take time.

I appreciate many will be unhappy at this whilst (seemingly) keeping Akanji, but I believe it’s the right call.
Gives Reis consistent starts in Europe; when he returns a slot will open for him, and Akanji remains an option as a defensive RB when City play a 3-2 rather than 2-3.
