Looks like a bike. Feels like a scooter. Legally? It’s a motorcycle. Our biggest concern is the safety of our kids.
These motorized bikes may look small, but they are powerful machines capable of high speeds. Without proper training, licensing, and protective gear, they can be extremely dangerous, especially for young riders.
Colorado Revised Statute 42-1-102 defines a motorcycle as a motor vehicle designed to travel on no more than three wheels in contact with the ground and powered by a motor capable of propelling the vehicle.
Under Colorado law:
• Riders must be at least 16 years old
• A valid driver’s license is required
• A motorcycle endorsement (which requires training and testing) is required. Motorcycle endorsement training teaches critical skills that protect riders and everyone around them.
• The motorcycle must be properly registered and insured
AND Motorcycles are NOT allowed on sidewalks, pathways, or trails in the Town of Frederick.
These laws aren’t about punishment — they’re about preventing serious injuries.
