AI is already embedded in how researchers work. Yet most publishing policies still say "don't." Elena Vicario argues in @ResProfNews: it's time for publishers to lead on responsible AI adoption — not lag behind it. The BE WISE framework shows how. Read more⬇️

@DavidPBLRoss One of the most important questions in AI and education is not simply whether these tools are available, but how teachers engage with them critically, practically, and pedagogically. Thank you for sharing.

I’m pleased to share that our systematic review on spheno-orbital meningiomas, conducted at @BarrowNeuro , has been published in @FrontiersIn in Oncology🔥 In this study, we systematically evaluated the possible association between hormone therapy and the development and progression of spheno-orbital meningiomas, a complex skull base pathology with both intraosseous and soft-tissue components. Our review suggests that long-term exposure to progestins may contribute to SOM development and progression, while cessation of hormone therapy can lead to partial regression, particularly in soft-tissue components. Despite these observations, surgical resection remains the primary treatment strategy, and prospective evidence guiding clinical decision-making remains limited. This work highlights the need for better characterization of hormone-related tumor biology and standardized clinical management strategies for SOM patients. Congratulations to all co-authors, particularly to our brilliant summer med student Jarett Prince. 🔗 doi.org/10.3389/fonc.2… #Neurosurgery #NeuroOncology #Meningioma #SkullBaseSurgery #HormoneTherapy #SystematicReview #BarrowNeurologicalInstitute #Frontiers

🙏🏻😃 Happy to share our recent publication in Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence: "AI-generated explanations in kidney transplantation: accuracy vs. readability and implications for patient education." 📄🤖 #AI #Nephrology @OscarGarciaMD @jingmiao2019 @MayoClinicNeph 📍 Effective patient education is critical for informed decision-making and adherence in kidney transplantation. While Generative AI holds immense potential to enhance how we communicate with patients, a crucial question remains: Are AI-generated explanations actually accurate and easy for patients to understand? In our latest study from the Mayo Clinic, we evaluated the performance of GPT-5.1 in generating plain-language explanations for 100 clinical kidney transplant terms. Here is what we found: ✅ High Clinical Accuracy: The AI generated highly accurate explanations across the board, with no clinically significant errors. ⚠️ Default Readability is a Barrier: Using a standard prompt, the output was highly complex. 46% of explanations required a college-level reading ability (mean Grade Level 13.4)—far too difficult for standard patient education materials. 🎯 Prompt Design is the Solution: When we revised the prompt to explicitly request an 8th-grade reading level or lower, the readability drastically improved to a middle school level (mean Grade Level 6.3)—without compromising any clinical accuracy. The Takeaway: AI is a powerful tool for patient education, but explicit, readability-focused prompt engineering is absolutely essential to ensure these tools bridge the health literacy gap rather than widen it. 🔗 Read the full Open Access article here: doi.org/10.3389/frai.2… 📌 Full Publication Details: Title: AI-generated explanations in kidney transplantation: accuracy vs. readability and implications for patient education Authors: Oscar A.
