Randy Peters went to Channels TV for an interview with Seun Okinbaloye, and in his usual self, he spoke at length about the many problems in the country, he talked about how terrible and bad everything is. He went on to talk about the electricity situation in the country, and in an attempt to downplay the efforts of the government, he said the government promised light and went on to install solar for themselves. Then Seun interrupted him and asked; "what would you have done differently"? Then he showed the world that he is only eloquent when it comes to mentioning problems and criticizing leaders. He could not answer the question, he quickly dribbled around it and went back to doing the best thing he is known for, mentioning problems. One problem with Nigerians is that we always mistake eloquence and fast speech for intelligence, we always mistake book smartness for problem solving abilities. Randy Peters can mention the names of all the traditional rulers that have ever reigned in different kingdoms in Nigeria in chronological order, he is that smart but does that make him fit to suggest or recommend a great leader?? NO! Apparently his mentor too is quite good with mentioning problems but to suggest a solution?? Big deal. Same name, similar voice tone, similar problems.

Petrol is ₦1,400 today. That was the first thing I heard this morning, and immediately I knew the day was already ruined. I stepped outside and it didn’t take long to confirm it. Transport fares had already increased. The same route I normally pay ₦300 for suddenly became ₦500. The drivers kept saying the same thing: “Fuel don cost.” Everyone complained… but we still entered the bus. What choice do we have? Then it hit me — if transport has increased today, food prices will follow next. The woman that sells rice and beans near my house will soon adjust her prices. The market traders will blame transport, and the transporters will blame petrol. But that wasn’t even the worst part of my day. The heat today is unbearable. The kind of heat that makes you sweat even when you’re just sitting down. So I rushed back home thinking at least I could put on the fan and rest. But as usual, no NEPA light. Just heat everywhere. Someone will say, “Why not install solar?” You check the price of solar panels and immediately close the page before you develop high blood pressure. So this is my reality today: ₦1,400 petrol. Transport fare increased. Food prices about to go up. Crazy heat. And no electricity. Sometimes it feels like we are just surviving one day at a time in this country. 😭

The truth is, no human being can truly keep another person safe; safety is of the Lord (Proverbs 21:31). For example, when bodyguards are confronted by assailants with superior firearms, the people they are protecting will quickly realise that nobody is really willing to die for someone else, no matter how much he or she is paid. Beloved, the only one who can keep you safe is the Most High God; therefore, your hope for tomorrow should be in Him and no one else. Sometimes, on my travels around the world, I am driven by reckless drivers. At one time in Brazil, one of such reckless drivers drove me from the hotel I was staying in to the place I was to minister at. As he drove, I was busy praying for him because I was worried about his safety. I knew that my safety was not in his hands, and if anything happened, I would be safe; it was him I was worried about. No matter how good or bad a driver is, I know that I will always arrive safely at my destination because my life is in God's hands. Even though David was a mighty warrior who had fought and defeated lions, bears, and giants, he knew he was not responsible for his safety. Throughout the book of Psalms, he reminds us to keep our eyes on the only One who can truly keep us safe. Psalm 121 is one of such Psalms that reminds us that the Lord is our keeper (verse 5). People who have had to undergo surgery because of what seemed to be a minor accident, such as hitting their toes against a stone, will understand how important David's words in Psalm 91:11-12 are. When God protects a fellow, the person's enemies won't be able to harm him or her, no matter how numerous they are. This was Jehoshaphat's experience when he wore his royal robes and went into battle with Ahab against the Syrians. He became the primary target of all the captains of the Syrian army because they had been ordered to kill the king only, but God's mark of safety was upon him, and they did not touch him (1 Kings 22:29-33).
