@teachrobotslove Definitely something to this. Meditation can be a useful tool here to view emotions as something you can either give weight to or not. However, after filtering emotions you still might just not value anything enough to move forward. I found the latter half harder to overcome.

"Have you just tried not being depressed?" sounds stupid if you've never been able to tell yourself "no" and actually mean it. But you actually can do this as a valid strategy if you achieve enough mastery over yourself. You can refuse a feeling - without processing or repression. You are the one who decides.

The pursuit of non-existence and the dissolution of the ego seems like just another frivolous pursuit to avoid pain. Why would we have an identity and a self if not to make use of them, and become strong in our individuation? The idea that "the self" is an evil and illusory test is just another form of gnosticism. It says: All matter is evil, and you are confined to pain, but *if* you have the secret knowledge you can escape it. It's just this secret knowledge is always some kind of death.
There is no secret knowledge to escape suffering. And besides, why would you want to? Compared to nothingness, suffering is an exquisite joy. Even the worst memories of my life sometimes take on a nostalgic glow when I see how they've taken me to where I am, like pockmarks of light winking in the non-existence.
