For many months I’ve been scrutinising Keir Starmer’s operation to find out how he turned it into a winning electoral force (including being able to get big majority with lower vote share). Here a piece today & v soon my book from @HarperNorthUK on how this election was won&lost

'After Labour's hammering in the 2019 General Election, no one expected Starmer to be walking into Downing Street as prime minister today, just five years on.' Deputy Political Editor @AnushkaAsthana on how Keir Starmer turned the Labour party into a winning force itv.com/news/2024-07-0…

Watch this it’s fascinating - I asked James Timpson what he’d do about prisons and sentencing if he was in charge. He believes only a third of prisoners in jail should definitely be there. He’s now in charge of prisons (but not sentencing).

We’re so excited to share that our next exhibition will explore #folktales, dialect, boggarts and a sense of place... Weird as Folk: Tall Tales from the Northwest This exhibition is part of our innovative People, Purpose, and Place in Historic Books project and is made possible with the support of @heritagefunduk. It will begin with a teaser display on words used to catalogue #folklore related books that opens to mark Manchester’s Festival of Libraries on 12 June and runs until 29 June. Come along and try your knowledge – do you know what Wag-at-the-Wa’ means? Or mumming?

Up for another cup! ‘Food of the Cods’ has been shortlisted for @GuildFoodWriter Best Food Book 2024. A truly lovely honour. The scraps are on me. I mean they’re free, but still…

I didn’t win, obviously, or you would have seen a news item about a man dressed as a chippy fork scaling Nelson’s Column. Still, incredible to be on that little list and to get to eat tiny morsels of posh buffet. And I got chips on the way home.
