I have a close family member who is a cop and I can tell you, a large number of officers don't care about politics in that they care about their employment more than their principles. This person went from being anti authoritarian and a lolbert to unironically advocating for Flock cameras on every street and supportive of AI gait analysis for pedestrians because it would mean they'd get more arrests and thus look better for bonuses or pay increases. They agreed it expands the surveillance state but they didn't care because it only stood to help them.
