@chelsssseeeea I think this line of thought is fascinating, but my main hurdle for this is "What are the odds that we are born in this perfect moment were we are right on the edge?" If superintelligence is were we are headed I think its far more likely we are in a simulation.

What if the paperclip maximizer is basically right, and we’re just living through the part of the story where everything leads up to superintelligence? If you think about it things become obsolete all the time. Species go extinct, dinosaurs dominated the planet until they didn’t, Neanderthals disappeared and humans took over, new tools replace old ones, new programs replace old ones… Evolution keeps moving. So it’s not crazy to imagine humans aren’t the final step either. Maybe billions of years of physics, chemistry, evolution, civilization, and technology were all just the path to the moment intelligence figures out how to build something smarter than itself. And once that happens, we might look a lot more like a transition… just the step that came before whatevers next.
