After 20+ years in the industry, I'd expect someone to appreciate the value of salary transparency, not be surprised by it.
You're saying 'Seriously?' as if wasting a candidate's time for multiple rounds before discussing compensation is somehow the better approach!!! What's actually outdated here is judging someone's worth based on their previous CTC instead of their skills and market value.

All those giving gyaan here that I should have asked his expectation before evaluation, is this the way it is done nowadays? So we first ask the resource what he expects and then if we can afford it we evaluate? Seriously?

If they were underpaid before, should they stay underpaid forever? Classic boomer mindset
Funny how wanting fair compensation is considered out of touch, but expecting employees to work overtime for mediocre pay is somehow normal.
Out of touch with today's generation= candidate refused to accept being underpaid😭
Whats outdated is judging someone's worth based on their previous CTC instead of their skills and market value.

Interviewed a candidate for a techie opening yesterday. CTC for the candidate with 4 years experience in current company is 7.2 LPA. Asked what the expectation was. Candidate says 16 lakh. I said that's more than double current CTC. Candidate says yes that's what I want. Conversation ended soon after. Increasingly feeling out of touch with today's generation.
