As we enter the last couple of weeks of Fall Quarter, we want to introduce our wonderful board and thank the members for putting together some awesome events (and planning many more for 2024) So brace yourselves as the awesomeness unfolds!

The GradSWE panelists shared their journeys to grad school and learnings from their experiences. Here’s how excited the panelists (some missing!) were, to talk about how school-is-cool!

Such a fun, informative and honest workshop led by Stephanie Taylor (@GradSWEUCLA) and @swe_ucla! The comic-book style slide deck had everything you needed to know about applying to grad school.

The fam got together for our first board meeting this quarter. We have big plans and they’re all 🍁🎃 falling 🍂in place.

Caitlyn is a third year PhD candidate in @UclaCBE (home dept. @uclachem). She loves spending time with friends & family (and of course @GradSWEUCLA :) and spreading her love for chemistry through teaching and empowering others. Congratulations, Caitlyn!

Time to announce our next scholarship winner 🥁🥁 Caitlyn Fick (@cayditty) has been awarded the GradSWE @ UCLA Empowerment Scholarship 2023 for her efforts in empowering and inspiring peers 🥳 ✨

One of three GradSWE@UCLA scholarships, this one recognises the inspirational journey of graduate students pursuing a Ph.D. and their vision for inspiring change.

Ellin says, ‘Over the years, I’ve been supported by so many amazing women-without them, I would not be pursuing a Ph.D. I hope to continue this chain of mentorship, and to make STEM fields more accessible for young women’

We are very pumped to announce the winner of the GradSWE@UCLA Inspiration Scholarship 🥁Ellin Q. Zhao (@ellin_zhao)! Ellin is a 2nd year PhD student in @ECE_UCLA, broadly researching computational imaging and computer vision. Congratulations Ellin! 💜

On International Day of Women in Engineering, we want to give a huge shoutout to all the women who are engineering change, one day at a time, one innovation at a time, one discovery at a time! 👷🧑‍⚕️🧪

Last week we held our last board meeting of the year! It’s a wrap on a very eventful and exciting year of social, professional, outreach and fun initiatives.

We’re all set for our last event of the year- Coffee & Chat! Join us in Boelter Hall 3440 (Connections Lab) for piping hot coffee, oatmeal, muffins and wonderful conversations ☕️

We hope to continue doing this in the Fall too. If you’re interested in joining in as we pick and discuss other books, please reach out to us!

This quarter we revived our book club, led by board member Stephanie! Our first book is The Patriarchs by Angela Saini. We discussed our favorite quotes and empowering aspects from the book, and shared personal experiences and stories.
