@sharpe_le At least it’s clear from these replies why so many Army units have such terrible discipline records.
English

@GrumpyWo Gosh, you sound more like a bitter and jealous failed para rather than a GrumpyWO 🤔
English

@dwphilbert Absolutely. And good. And I suspect there were similar failings in the culture & leadership delivered by NCOs & Officers. And that was in 1994 & most of the Army has significantly improved its cultures & behaviours since then.
English

@dwphilbert But when a unit appears unwilling or unable to make its culture, the responsibility of NCOs & Officers, appropriate, at what point do you say enough & just remove the issue entirely? Perhaps I’m more puritanical regarding standards than some, but I don’t apologise for that.
English

@dwphilbert If those units had a track record like 3 Para has, I’d suggest they probably would (I think there are tough Q’s for Irish Guards leadership especially). In reference to RMAS, & training across the MOD, there has been huge changes regarding culture & safeguarding.
English

@BW1880 Putin won’t care that it was consensual & pretending to shoot left wing politicians was just a laugh when he’s pushing narratives of “airborne nazis” raping little girls & executing socialists.
Modern war is about more than stabby knives.
English

@BW1880 Because *that* is now the problem. Deploying this unit now would be an absolute gift to an adversary. The atrocities that could be fabricated - “look, look how they act even in Britain!”.
English

@BW1880 You’re only as good as your last SJAR/OJAR. Would you want to deploy them into a conflict zone with a history of political or sexual violence? Would you want to be the one trying to defend the inevitable info ops claiming they’re responsible for sexual/right wing violence?
English

@johnaitken69 I’m pretty sure if this was a random transport regiment in the RLC, they’d be finding themselves quietly amalgamated.
English

@timdavies_uk @OpPsychologist It absolutely hasn’t contributed to indiscipline & I can’t begin to fathom the line of thinking to possibly suggest it would. Military cultures, good & bad, persist because people are recruited into them.
English

@GrumpyWo @OpPsychologist Tell me that you don't believe the flag waving hasn't contributed to the indiscipline?
These young men weren't born in the 80s. (I agree with your sentiment, of course).
English

@timdavies_uk @OpPsychologist This wouldn’t have happened in the “rainbow flag waving” parts of the Army. This happened because this Bn clearly had the impression their unprofessional, laddish, loutish, 1980s BAOR behaviour was somehow acceptable or, worse, desirable.
English

@OpPsychologist No. There are standards to be set and upheld. The world seemingly needs Victorian discipline at the moment especially in the rainbow flag waving parts of our military.
This is what you get when you allow it be subverted, poor leadership, indiscipline and combat ineffectiveness.
English

@ross_moy From the replies to that, I see nothings improved much during my time mostly away?
English

@GunnyHighway6 My respect for a military list was seriously eroded after seeing someone receiving an award for operational service despite being widely considered - at all ranks inc peers - as utterly incompetent along with their gross displays of sexism. But they was posh though. 🤷🏼♂️
English

@C0G1TO_ERG0_SUM @caligari_87 @DonLew87 But that’s an argument for wide ranging firearms legislation against all calibres, not against it.
English

@C0G1TO_ERG0_SUM @caligari_87 @DonLew87 Only if the round encounters sufficient tissue to induce drag & yaw. At extremely close range, against a small, unarmored, target, it seems reasonable to expect a higher likelihood of a through & through with 5.56 vs 9mm, & that a 9mm could produce a more traumatic injury.
